Technical Tours

The IASS 2023 Organising Committee is delighted to be able to offer two exclusive tours on Friday 14 July to registered delegates.

Tour 1 will delve into the historic Melbourne venues of Federation Square and Southern Cross.

Tour 2 will have groups travel down to Philip Island to view beautiful parts of regional Victoria and witness the iconic Penguin Parade.

Tours Information

Tour 1 - Half Day

Tour behind the scenes of Federation Square and Southern Cross Station

Meeting point: Convention Centre entry at South Wharf Place at 8.35

Locations: Southern Cross Station at 9.00 – 10.00 and Federation Square at 10.30 – 12.00

Guests will receive a behind the scenes tour of Southern Cross Station from Mr Neil Stonell who helped design the unique waveform roof.

Once done guests will walk to and get a second exclusive tour Federation Square from Professor Donald Bates, lead designer and will get exclusive access to areas usually not available to the public.

This priceless tour can accommodate a maximum of 25 guests and costs only $5 per person.

Tour 2 – Full Day

Tour to Philip Island and see the Penguin Parade

Phillip Island Penguins

Meeting point: Convention Centre entry at South Wharf Place 10.15

Locations: Brighton Beach Boxes at 11.00, Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park at 12.30 – 14.00 and Philip Island at 17.00

Departing MCEC at 10.30am by bus, guests will be taken to the city’s most colourful attraction – the iconic Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes.

Guests will then continue their journey to Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park. Here, guests will enjoy a guided wildlife walk where you will have the opportunity to meet and hand-feed many species of native Australian animals.

Continuing to Phillip Island, for the main event, the Phillip Island Penguin Parade! Just after dark you’ll be truly enchanted as the stars of the show emerge from the surf and pass right before your eyes on their journey back to their homes. After the parade, you will have time to explore the visitor centre before climbing back onboard the bus beginning the journey back to Melbourne with drop-off right back to the Convention Centre.

This tour, worth $145, can accommodate a maximum of 45 guests and costs only $20 per person.
